No matter where you are in the upper Midwest, you’re less than a day’s drive away from a true wilderness destination. Getting to the Porcupine Mountains is easy. Below are directions from some major cities in the region along with a driving map.

Chicago – 7.5 hours
Take I-94 to Milwaukee, then Hwy 141 north to Hwy 2. Take Hwy 2 west to Hwy 45.

Des Moines – 10 hours
Take Hwy 35 north to Duluth. Head east on Hwy 2 to MI-28, then east to MI-64.

Detroit – 11.5 hours
Take Hwy 75 to St. Ignace, then east on Hwy 2, north on MI-77, then west on MI-28 to Hwy 41 to Baraga, then west on MI-38.

Duluth – 3 hours
Travel east on Hwy 2 to MI-28, then east to MI-64.

Green Bay – 5.5 hours
Take Hwy 141 north to Hwy 2. Take Hwy 2 west to Hwy 45.

Madison – 6 hours
Take I39 to Wausau, then Hwy 51 north to Hwy 8. Take Hwy 8 east to Rhinelander, then Hwy 17 north to Hwy 45.

Milwaukee – 7 hours
Take Hwy 141 north to Hwy 2. Take Hwy 2 west to Hwy 45.

Minneapolis – 6.5 hours
Take Hwy 35 north to Duluth. Head east on Hwy 2 to MI-28, then east to MI-64.
